Introducing Tony Hunt

The Mortgage Store itself started up in St Albans 20 years ago and I’ve been a mortgage broker for almost 19 years myself, helping people find the right mortgage and protection products, after starting off in textiles as a production planner at Coates Viyella in Alfreton.

I have 4 children, 3 chickens and 6 rescue cats. In my spare time I am a radio DJ and I enjoy cooking. My passion is helping people to get their new home and making the journey as stress free as possible.

A Mortgage Broker means that we deal with more than one lender. I deal with around sixty different lenders, which gives my clients plenty of choice and hundreds of mortgages to choose from.

The way that we look after our clients as Mortgage Brokers. You tend to get a more personalised service through the whole journey of finding your home. We take clients’ personal circumstances into consideration and tailor a solution by going to different mortgage lenders.

Yes, we do. We want to ensure that our clients have always got the best possible mortgage deal throughout their mortgage lifetime. Clients don’t have to stay with the same Lender, we can look at different lenders based on clients’ circumstances at each part of their journey.

Our passion is to help our clients through the whole mortgage process. We can help with budget related discussions and help them negotiate on properties. We’ll find the right mortgage deal based on their specific circumstances. Our support team also helps to chase things through with estate agents and solicitors, so that our clients are always aware of what’s happening in the process, making the whole journey much less stressful. A big part of what we do is to make sure that debt is actually protected as well. So we offer various mortgage protection solutions for our clients. There are protections that help you to pay the mortgage and bills if you experience cancers, heart attacks or strokes, for example, through critical Illness cover. We have solutions for death in ownership, to make sure that your family can still keep the house. In certain circumstances family income benefits can also be added, to look after your family’s expenses, should anything untoward happen.

As soon as you start thinking about wanting to buy a house is the ideal time to approach a Mortgage Broker. Some clients do approach us once they’ve found a house and they don’t know if they can afford it, which does make my job a little bit more tricky at times, but we still can point you in the right financial direction. We look at your circumstances, and what’s affordable for you before you start looking at properties, which makes looking for properties much easier.

Yes, we help people all around the country. You don’t have to be locally based, Zoom calls mean that we can still have face-to-face meetings. People often find it more comforting to speak to us from home than walking into an estate agent’s office, which can be quite daunting.

Chesterfield has got its history, such as the crooked spire, the Pomegranate theatre and one the best markets in the country. People enjoy walking in the Peak District, which is only a short drive away.

There’s no fee for an initial consultation. We’re very proud to be able to offer initial advice to people for free, as it gives them the assurance of whether we could possibly help them, before they incur cost. We only actually charge a fee upon doing an application, if they would like us to do the mortgage application for them. If anyone listening needs mortgage advice, give us a call, we can have a chat, and put your mind at rest about any questions you might have. It’s a daunting process, and we want to make the whole journey, from finding the house to moving in, as easy and stress-free as possible for you. Your property may be repossessed if you do not keep up with your mortgage repayments.

Mortgage advice

Finding the right mortgage in Chesterfield doesn’t have to be complicated. As an independent mortgage broker, Tony Hunt searches across 60 lenders to find the most suitable deal for your circumstances — whether you’re buying your first home, moving up the ladder, remortgaging, or investing in a buy to let property. Unlike going direct to a bank, working with a whole-of-market broker means you’re not limited to one lender’s products. Tony takes the time to understand your situation first, then matches you to the right deal rather than the nearest available one.

Buying property in Chesterfield

Chesterfield’s property market continues to attract buyers looking for more space at better value than neighbouring Sheffield, with strong commuter links via the M1 and direct rail services into Sheffield city centre. Areas like Brampton, Walton, Newbold, and Hasland are popular with families, while the town centre and Whittington Moor appeal to first time buyers and younger purchasers. Average property prices in Chesterfield remain below the national average, making it an accessible market for first time buyers — though competition for well-presented homes in popular postcodes remains strong. Whether you’re buying in S40, S41, S42, or S43, we can help you understand what you can borrow and move quickly when you find the right property.
